ABOUT

Hello & Welcome to Developing Positives!

ABOUT ME

My name is Namu Sampath. Photography, writing, and women's rights have been interests of mine since I was in middle school. I am currently the President of NKT Connections, a service learning club at Pacific Ridge School, whose charter is to empower women in Nepal, Kenya and Tibet and other countries around the world by teaching them to be self-sustainining.

My mission is to combine my passion for writing and photography to create a voice for women and youth advocacy and empowerment.  Over the course of four summers, I have acquired skills that have taught me different aspects of creating and delivering content. I took a class called "Photo Essay: Seeing San Diego Through Image and Text" at UCSD in summer 2013, where I learned that photography is a powerful crossover medium capable of reaching diverse audiences and generating awareness about social and political topics. In summer of 2014, I interned at Media Arts Center San Diego where I taught photography to young learners, organized and archived photographs locally and for social media, was the official photographer at their events. The following summer (2015), I interned with 1011i, a marketing firm in San Diego, where I worked as a graphic design artist and modernized various websites, for example, George's at the Cove, FlagStaff, and ColorScience using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Bridge and Illustrator. I used all these skills to create the Developing Positives website.

ABOUT DEVELOPING POSITIVES

Developing Positives is the name of my campaign. I chose this name because of my interest in photography and the endless possibilities and promise that the words "Developing Positives" offer. In film photography, images are captured on negatives from which positives are developed. In a similar way, we can strive to change negative perceptions to positive attitudes.

The Developing Positives logo is a camera lens showing every issue has different facets to it and each facet helps to build the full image.

Developing Positives represents my first step for creating a change to social issues that women and youth face and focuses on identifying solutions in education, self-reliance and empowerment through photography.
